New Orleans: Zoo

Even though V hasn't really displayed any interest in animals thus far, we wanted to check out the New Orleans zoo to see what she thought. It's a so-so zoo, but they don't have a lot up by way of fencing, which is cool for photographing but also makes you wonder what is stopping the monkey/bird/lemur from escaping its pen. Maybe they have electronic fences, or something. V didn't seem all that impressed, so we'll have to try again when she's a bit older.

Of course, we had her pose with as many of the animal statues as we could find.

I guess gorillas really do prefer to sit like this.

This is when I decided against a swamp tour. It was creepy enough looking at this big guy from the safety of an elevated bridge. I really don't need to be out in a boat, cruising around a swamp looking for trouble.

The anteater wins the award for weirdest animal. How on earth did such a large mammal come about that eats something so tiny? Also, check out it's paws - doesn't it look like a panda head?

Of course, I had to try some Roman Candy, which turned out to be marshmallow flavored taffy. Not bad.

And last, but not least, feeding the ducks - a time-honored ritual passed down from father to daughter.
