Sean and I are looking for a rocking chair for the bambina, and my obvious choice was the Eames Armchair, but Sean thinks that it's going to be uncomfortable, because the back is short and doesn't support your neck/head. Sigh. As much as I hate to admit it, I think he's right, so thus begins our rocking chair search. Here's a round up of some of the different options I've come across.
These are some of the more affordable rocking chairs that I've came across - the POÄNG from Ikea ($179), the Mid-Century Rocker Chair by Urban Outfitters ($288), and the Bentwood Rocking Chair from Target. None of them scream awesome, but their prices are awesome, so there you go. Actually, what does scream awesome is Gabrielle Blair's Rocking Chair Project. I really love the idea of finding a cheap rocking chair on craigslist and painting it a bright, fun color.
Less affordable, but perhaps worth the investment are the Buttercup Rocker by Blu Dot and the Chuck Rocking Chair by Jean-Marie Massaud.
Also more expensive but investment-worthy are vintage finds on Ebay...There are a lot of great mid-century modern chairs to be found, some more pricey than others. The Mid-Century Modernist is a helpful website that filters though Ebay listings for you.
And, last but not least are the rocking chairs I shouldn't even bother looking at. Close your browsers, people, because these chairs are ridiculously expensive. Le sigh. Among my favorites: the JJ Rocking Chair by Antonio Citterio, Thomas Pedersen's Stingray Rocker, and Sintesi's Thinking Machine.
