small pleasures

Can I tell you about a sad little accomplishment I had today? You know how some mothers complain about how once they have a baby they are lucky if they are able to take a shower every day? That hasn't been my problem - my issue has been getting out of the house by myself with V. We live in a walk-up, so taking V out in the stroller is a two-person job (which we haven't attempted yet!). While V is small, it makes a lot more sense to take her out in our Ergo carrier, but for some reason, I find putting on the Ergo a little intimidating, so I hadn't attempted to do it myself until today. I'm sure that eventually I'll be able to strap myself and V in with my eyes closed, but for now, I'm worried about her falling out while I'm putting it on, or the carrier coming undone while I'm walking around with her.

But, I had enough of feeling like a prisoner in my own apartment, and so I got out the instruction booklet, strapped her in, and went out to the post office and the library, holding on to V the whole way (maybe next time I'll be confident enough in my Ergo-wearing skills to walk around hands free!). It's kind of ridiculous how good it felt to be out and about with her. V seemed to enjoy it, too, and remains passed out in her Ergo infant insert as I type.

  1. So. You don't know me, but I totally know how you feel! My son is 2.5 months old and it took me a while to use the Ergo too. But now it is my salvation. We go places, go for walks and sometimes resort to the Ergo when he won't go to sleep at night. Works like a charm. (Knock on wood.) And I'm a pro at putting it on by myself, even in parking lots. So, good luck!

  4. Until she was 5 months old, our little roo ONLY slept while being carried... so we used our Baby Bjorne everyday... 24/7... We still use it here and there when we are out and she is tired (aka needs to go to sleep). It's amazing how we adopt pretty quickly as baby grows. Thank you so much for sharing your little milestones. It totally brings me the flashbacks from (only) 8 months ago and it's sweet.

I hope you and your family a very lovely weekend!
